In early 2016, Tavern Kitchen & Bar opened with a wine menu of six wines, but we have now expanded our wine menu to 14 types, due to the high demand of Sabahans, who have grown to appreciate the sophisticated taste of wines.
If you would like to have an elegant meal, especially to please the apple of your eye, or reward yourself or your loved ones, a suitable wine pairing will make a wonderful and delightful difference to your dining experience. Take your meal up a notch by selecting one of our carefully curated wines from the best vineyards around the world.
Our bestselling wine is a beautiful rose wine named Marques de Caceres, Rosada, Spain. A rose wine is unique because it incorporates some of the colour from the grape skins, but not enough to technically make it a red wine. It may be the oldest known type of wine in history. The pretty pink colour of rose wines can range from an orangey pink to almost purple, depending on the varieties of grapes used and the winemaking techniques employed. With over 40 years of experience in the wine industry, Marques de Caceres offers high quality wines with the most delicate and delicious flavours. Their rose wine is made exclusively from red grapes, and it is one of the traditional wines of Marques de Caceres with a vast catalogue of pairings.
If you enjoy red wines, why not try our W. Gisselbrecht, Pinot Noir, France? The Gisselbrecht family had been producing wines in Alsace since the 17th century. Today, the family owns 17 hectares of Vineyards in the best locations of Dambach la ville and surroundings. The Pinot Noir is one of their traditional wines. With a bright red colour, it has a charming cherry and raspberry nose, with a fresh and fruity taste, complete with supple tanins and an elegant finish. It is an excellent pairing for grilled white and red meats, barbecues, pastas and cheeses.
Another recommended red wine is Barone Ricasoli, Chianti DOCG, Italy. One of the most popular wines from the region, this Chianti wine has been rated highly by several important critics.
If you prefer white wine, do try Rymill, The Yearling, Sauvignon Blanc, Australia. It is a crisp and refreshing wine produced from estate grown fruit and made to be enjoyed young and fresh. The Sauvignon Blanc from the Coonawarra region produces vibrant, fragrant wines that exhibit a little more complexity than from more celebrated Sauv Blanc regions.
You should also try our specialty white wine from France – M. Chapoutier, Cotes du Rhone ‘Belleruche’, France. This pale yellow wine has a nose of green apple, hawthorn and white blossoms, citrus aromas and exotic fruits. It is best paired with grilled fish and cheese.
However, if you only desire a glass of wine for the day, the house pouring wine is RM22 per glass for both red and white wines.
